Radio Samples

For the time being, this is where I’m going to put most of my radio snippets. I’ll post about them in the main pages when I add them, but they will all be available here. Comments here or on the main blog pages.

Tube Challenge Random 15, October 2009

This is a sample radio report done at the October 2009 Tube Challenge Random 15. OK, the first song I used on it is a little predictable, and while editing it I realised that I use the same phrases a lot (“… but we shall see” being one of them) but given that it’s kind of the first time I’ve done something proper like this I don’t think I did too bad a job really! Duration 17m26s.

New Wine FM 10pm News, 3/4 August 2009

A couple of news reports that I did for New Wine FM in the summer. During the first week, I did the midnight news before closing the station down for the night (or putting the computer onto its overnight playlist!) and during the second week I did the 10pm news – still the last bulletin of the day, but two hours earlier! It also meant that I could have a bit of ‘banter’ with Lu who presented the evening show after the bulletin.

The two recordings below show both the news bulletins on 3 August and 4 August 2009. The first bulletin contained information about the Lego® house that James May (of Top Gear fame) built for his BBC2 programme ‘James May’s Top Toys’ which aired in the autumn. We commented afterwards that there was an information stall in the New Wine marketplace where they were building (smaller!) Lego houses. For the second bulletin, I looked into what the stall was and what they were raising awareness for. Parts of these news bulletins (the first two stories on the second bulletin for example) were written by me.

There was also a little bit of ‘insider’ jokes here (which we shouldn’t have aired!) for which I will apologise. These have been recoreded exactly as they went out on air, with only the beginning and ends trimmed. Duration: 6m14s / 6m1s

Stanley & Miller: Local Detectives – Episode 2

Stanley & Miller was a silly little thing that Chris and I wrote a while ago for Kongomana FM (what then became DY Sound). Featuring Chris as Steve Stanley and me as Pete Miller, in this episode the two go to America when they find that the President has gone missing. The rest of the voices were provided by the other people who did KFM when we did the week long RSL broadcast back in 2005, and the Vice-President has a Zimbabwean accent!  Just so you know, for some reason this version doesn’t have the cast list at the end, so I shall say that ‘Bob’ is the head of the President’s Security (you can’t really tell in the script – he’s just ‘Bob’…). The YO2 Show on DY Sound – with Elvin Pengelli

The YO2 club is a youth club that runs at Tiverton Youth Centre, where I run DY Sound. The YO2 club is for youth with special needs. I was asked if I could do some radio with one of the young people there as part of his Duke of Edinburgh Award, so on one evning we went out with a handlheld recorder and talked to a number of the youth there, which we then played back on air to the Youth Centre. This is the result.  Duration: 7m2s
